Environmental Justice
Mission
To bring together organizations and residents to advance community-driven solutions that reduce environmental inequities and build a more just, healthy, and climate-resilient Evanston.
Vision
An Evanston where environmental quality and climate resilience are rights—not privileges—and where every resident can live in a safe, healthy, and sustainable community.
About the Evanston Environmental Justice Coalition
The Evanston Environmental Justice Coalition brings together community organizations, local leaders, and residents to advance environmental justice and climate resilience throughout Evanston. By working collaboratively, the coalition helps identify community priorities, elevate resident voices, and advocate for solutions that ensure every neighborhood has access to a healthy, sustainable environment.
Whether addressing climate resilience, environmental health, access to green space, or other environmental challenges, the coalition is committed to building a more equitable future where every resident can thrive.
Our Values
The coalition is guided by the Jemez Principles for Democratic Organizing, which emphasize inclusive participation, community leadership, collaboration, mutual respect, and shared accountability. We believe the people most affected by environmental challenges should help shape the solutions, and we are committed to building authentic partnerships that advance environmental justice through equity, trust, and collective action.
